SVP, Licensing & Business Development
Alan Butcher joined Purdue as head of Licencing and Business Development in 2015. Prior to joining Purdue, Alan was Vice President of Business Development at Shire Pharmaceuticals. Alan completed Shire’s first ophthalmic product acquisition through the purchase of SARcode Bioscience and he supported, or led, several other transactions including the acquisition of NPS.
Prior to joining Shire, Alan was Vice President and General Manager of Implant Drug Delivery for Endo Pharmaceuticals. In that role, he was responsible for developing business strategy, P&L management, and the development of product candidates and alternative technologies. He joined Endo as Vice President of Business and Corporate Development in 2007, with responsibility for corporate development, as well as acquisition strategy, analysis, and execution.
From 2002 to 2007, Alan was Director of Worldwide Business Development Transactions at GlaxoSmithKline, where he managed the valuation, negotiation, and execution of intellectual property and product licensing deals. He had entered the Business Development function at Bristol-Myers Squibb in 2000 after holding several positions as a research scientist.
Alan holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Clinical Microbiology and a Masters of Science in Biology with a concentration in Molecular Biology and Genetics from West Chester University of Pennsylvania. He also is a graduate of Cornell University’s Johnson Graduate School of Management.
Executive Director, Licensing & Business Development
Kathryn joined Purdue as Executive Director of Licensing & Business Development in February 2015 with responsibility for the identification, evaluation and negotiation of new business development opportunities including alliances, collaborations, mergers and acquisitions.
With more than 20 years of biotech and pharmaceutical experience, Kathryn was most recently at Shire Pharmaceuticals, where she was responsible for business development transactions for the Neuroscience and Ophthalmology business units. Her impressive background includes experience in international business development, mergers and acquisitions, licensing, marketing, strategic sourcing, and procurement.
Prior to Shire, Kathryn held senior positions at PhaseBio Pharmaceuticals, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and Gensia Sicor Pharmaceuticals. Kathryn received an MBA from Pepperdine University and a BA from the University of California, Berkeley.
Executive Director, Licensing and Business Development, Alliance Management
Currently Executive Director, Licensing and Business Development, Alliance Management, Brianne Weingarten is accountable for launching and managing partner relationships. In this capacity, she acts as the primary point of contact for partners, and leads and organizes Steering and/or Joint Development Committees. During her career with Purdue, which spans more than 28 years, Brianne has progressed through a series of positions within Research & Development, the Quality Organization and Project Management, including leading global drug product teams, both for internal candidate development as well as alliance co-development programs. She successfully led company-wide efforts to prepare for two FDA Advisory Committee Meetings.
Brianne has published several papers in highly regarded journals, is currently serving on the Board of New York Pharma Forum, and has served as a judge on the 2014 Medical Marketing and Media awards panel. Brianne is a member of the Circle of Advisors of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association, Licensing Executives Society, and the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. Brianne earned an MS degree in Pharmacology from New York Medical College and a BS from SUNY Purchase.
