Since 1955, when Purdue introduced the first Senokot brand laxative, Purdue has become a leader in over-the-counter medications to treat occasional constipation. (Other non-prescription medications for occasional constipation from Purdue include Colace®, Peri‑Colace®, and Colace Clear® Soft Gels.)
Gentle, Overnight Relief for Occasional Constipation
Senokot provides gentle, overnight relief from occasional constipation that may be associated with changes in diet, activity level, or fluid intake; or when occasional constipation results from disease, disability, or a side effect of a medication.
Feel confident in the Senokot comfort promise: the active ingredient in Senokot laxatives is always purified senna, manufactured to high-quality standards.
Purified Senna, the Natural Vegetable Laxative Ingredient in Senokot
Senna has been grown for use as a laxative since ancient Egyptian times. After being ground to a fine powder, the senna undergoes a scientific standardization process to ensure consistent potency with every recommended dose. Purdue’s Senokot family of laxatives contains only purified and standardized senna.
Do not use laxative products when abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting is present unless directed by a physician. If you have noticed a sudden change in bowel movements that persists over a period of two weeks, consult a physician before using a laxative. Do not use laxative products for longer than 1 week unless told to do so by a doctor. Rectal bleeding or failure to have a bowel movement after use of a laxative may indicate a serious condition; discontinue use and consult your physician. If you are pregnant or nursing a baby, seek the advice of a health professional before using these products. In case of accidental overdose, seek professional assistance or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Keep out of children’s reach.
Senokot-S: Do not use if you are now taking mineral oil, unless told to do so by a health care professional.
